Email Scam
We have been informed that some of our customers received
emails claiming to be from a department within SingNet
e.g. billing, virus or accounting department (see sample
below). The emails requested that the recipient visit
a URL or open an attachment immediately. Some of these
emails also contained virus-infected attachments which
were detected by the SingNet
Email Virus Scan service to be containing the
Trojan dropper virus.
The emails were traced to an overseas network which has
been notified accordingly. We wish to assure our customers
that SingNet did not send these emails and offer the following
advice on precautions to take in such instances:
| 1. |
Ensure that your antivirus software
is configured to scan incoming and outgoing emails.
The SingNet
Email Virus Scan service scans both incoming
and outgoing emails on your SingNet email address. |
|
|
| 2. |
Check the sender's email
address - the emails that were supposedly sent by
SingNet did not come from the SingNet domain, singnet.com.sg.
Instead, these emails came from various unknown
domains. |
|
|
| 3. |
Do not follow any of the instructions
in the email i.e. visit the URL listed or open the
attachment. Most companies would not send such emails
to their customers. If you are uncertain of the
authenticity of the email, do contact the company
that supposedly sent the email. |
