I am unable to surf the Internet. Where is the problem ?
Errors in your Internet connection and browser settings are some of the common problems that can cause you to encounter difficulty in surfing the Internet. We present here some troubleshooting procedure which should assist you to resolve the problem, under normal condition. In the event that the browser is faulty, you may need to install the browser or seek assistance from the vendor.
Ping
Ping is a simple tool found in Windows operating system (not for Macintosh) that allows you to identify whether your Internet connectivity is alive. Please follow the steps below to carry out a ping test:
- From the Windows Desktop, go to START > Programs > MS-DOS Prompt
- You will see a window appear as shown below

- From the MS-DOS prompt, type in ping 165.21.83.88 followed by <ENTER>
Working Condition
If you see a result similar to the following:
Reply from 165.21.83.88: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=253
Reply from 165.21.83.88: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=253
Reply from 165.21.83.88: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=253
Reply from 165.21.83.88: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=253

Time Out Error
If you see this error message:

It is normally caused by improper network settings. Please refer to this link I am not able to connect to SingNet for the settings, with reference to the operating system that you are using.
Destination Host Unreachable Error
If you see this error message:
Destination Host Unreachable.
Destination Host Unreachable.

It is mainly caused by improper Gateway and DNS settings. It is normally caused by improper Network settings. Please go to this link I am not able to connect to SingNet for the settings, with reference to the operating system that you are using.
Sometimes you may encounter problems surfing to a particular site. If this happens, you may use the above method to ensure that the site is available. For example, if you cannot surf to an overseas site such as www.cnet.com, www.anti-virus.com or www.yahoo.com, you can apply the above method by typing the command as
C:\WINDOWS\ping www.cnet.com or
C:\WINDOWS\ping www.anti-virus.com or
C:\WINDOWS\ping www.yahoo.com

You should see the result similar to this:

It could be that the site is down under network maintenance or some other causes. We suggest that you wait for awhile or contact the website administrator and webmaster.
