Technical Support - Dial-Up - Macintosh 8.1 and below - Install and Configure Network Components  

 
There are 2 types of Network Configuration which are dependent on the MacOS and component used


Mac TCP - TCP/IP Configuration - [Applicable to MacOS 7.1 to 7.53]

  1. Double-click on the MacintoshHD icon on the Desktop.

  2. Double-click on the Systems folder
  3. Double-click on the Control Panels folder
  4. Double-click on the MacTCP icon
  5. MacTCP window opens. Please click on the PPP icon to select it. Ignore the IP address as the host machine will assign you an address. (Singnet PPP is a Server-addressed account.)




  6. Click on the More button. MacTCP configuration dialog box opens.
    • In the Obtain Address item, select the Server button.
    • In the IP Address item, check these configuration settings:
      • Select Class C from the pop-up menu.
      • The Subnet Mask is set to 255.255.255.0
    • In the Domain Name Server Information item, set these configuration settings.
      • Click inside the first entry field under the Domain item.

      • Enter in this field singnet.com.sg.
        [Very Important : Note that there is a dot(.) after the sg]
      • Click inside the first entry field under the IP Address item, and enter in this field 165.21.83.88. Also turn on the Default button next to this item.
      • Click inside the second field under Domain and enter in this field, a dot(.). Click inside the second field under IP Address and enter in this field, 165.21.83.88
      • Click inside the third field under Domain and enter in this field, a dot(.). Click inside the second field under IP Address and enter in this field, 165.21.100.88



  7. Your configuration should look similar to the one shown above. Please don't worry about the Gateway Address field and the rest of the stuffs in IP Address item, as long as the Server radio button is highlighted and the Domain Name Server Information items are set as indicated.
  8. Click on the OK button to save your changes and close the configuration window

  9. Close MacTCP by clicking on its close box in the upper left corner.




  10. MacTCP may or may not prompt you to Restart for changes to take effect. You are recommended to Restart your Mac just to make sure


  11. MacTCP TCP/IP Configuration in MacOS is completed


Open Transport - TCP/IP Configuration - [Applicable to MacOS 7.53 to 8.1]

  1. Click on the Apple Menu > Control Panels > TCP/IP




  2. The TCP/IP dialog window opens
  3. Click on the Connect via option. (Please take note that this setting is dependent on the type of dialer you are using to connect)
    • If you are using Open Transport to connect, then select PPP
    • If you are using FreePPP to connect, then select FreePPP



  4. Click on the Configure: option and select Using PPP Server




  5. Configure the settings as follows :


    1.               IP Adress: <will be supplied by server>
              Subnet mask: <will be supplied by server>
           Router address: <will be supplied by server>

      Name server addr:  165.21.100.88

              165.21.83.88

        Search domains::  singnet.com.sg




  6. Once you have entered all the above information, click on small square box located on the top left corner of the TCP/IP window to update the settings




  7. You will be prompted to save the changes. Please click on Save button to apply and update the changes




  8. Open Transport TCP/IP Configuration in MacOS is completed
