Microsoft Windows ME - Installing Dial-Up Adapter
Important Note :
It is by Microsoft's design that you cannot add a network adapter (including the Dial-Up Adapter) in Network properties in Windows Millennium Edition (Me). Please go to this Microsoft's Support link for the details.
Before you proceed with the setup, please ensure that you have the original version of Windows Me installation CD-ROM with you.
1. DIAL-UP NETWORKING IS NOT INSTALLED YET
- Go to the Windows taskbar and click on Start > Settings > Control Panel
- Control Panel window opens. Double click on Add/Remove Programs icon
- Add/Remove Programs Properties window opens.
- Click on Windows Setup tab and highlight the Communications component in the window and click on Details... button.
- The Dial-Up Networking component does not have a tick in its selection box.
- Please click inside the selection box to enable the Dial-Up Networking component. Please ensure that the tick or check-mark is present - see graphics below...
- Click on Ok twice and you will be prompted to ReStart the PC to update the changes. Click on the Yes button to continue
- You have successfully installed the Dial-Up Networking component into your Windows Me. You should be able to see the Dial-Up Adapter in your Network Properties window.
If you still cannot see the Dial-Up adapter in the Network Properties window, please follow the steps below.
2. DIAL-UP NETWORKING IS ALREADY INSTALLED
- Go to the taskbar and click on: Start > Settings > Dial-Up Networking
- Go through the process of creating a dialer. Enter the necessary information when prompted.
- On completion of the dialer creation, you will get this Dial-Up Networking window. Click on Ok button to continue.
- The process will end once the changes are implemented. However, please take note that the process will not prompt you to restart the PC.
- You must restart the PC to effect the changes. ONLY, after the PC has restarted, will you be able to see the Dial-Up adapter in the Network Properties window.
