Dear
Valued Customer,
In
our previous communications with you (please refer to our
website, i-News, etc.), we informed you our plans to discontinue
direct SMTP server access via other ISPs or network providers.
This
arrangement was possible because we opened up our network
access for users using a certain range of IP addresses assigned
by other ISP. However, such an arrangement also created
many problems as some users had abused this privilege via
email spamming, causing our SMTP server "mailcm.singnet.com.sg"
to be blacklisted by some ISPs overseas. As a result, it
has inconvenienced many SingNet customers and also damaged
our image.
In
order to be in line with the best practice of other ISPs,
we have decided to discontinue direct SMTP server access
from other networks for users to send out email messages
with effect from December 2001. However, in view of our
customers’ request, we have decided to extend the direct
SMTP server access for another 2 weeks, i.e., 15 December
2001. This will give them more time to make the necessary
arrangements.
You
may wish to note that SingNet will continue to allow its
customers to retrieve email messages directly from any Internet
network. Our roaming service will not be affected by this
change.
Alternatively,
you can retrieve and send out email via our web-mail facilities,
"My Communicator" at: http://webmail.singnet.com.sg
via any ISP or network provider. You may also wish to take
advantage of our current offer for our SingNet Broadband
service. This allows high-speed access to a full range of
Internet-related services and applications. In addition,
the access account comes with POP/SMTP email facilities
that can also be accessed via our dialup and global roaming
services. For more information, please visit our web site
at URL: http://www.singnet.com.sg/product/broadband/flashmain.html
We
would like to seek your understanding on the matter and
look forward to your continued support.
Yours
sincerely,
SingNet
